Become a Female Chimpanzee

Eating Termites

Throughout the year, but especially during the early wet season (October to December), the Gombe chimpanzees spend quite a bit of time eating termites, that live in large above ground mounds. The chimps catch them by "fishing" for them. They fashion a long, flexible tool out of twigs or grass and then insert it into a hole on the mound. The termites see the twig as an intruder and attack it. The chimps then pull them out and eat them.

After your long travels your are tired and need a rest. However you and your children are also covered with all kinds of leaf debris and dirt. Would you like to lie down and rest or groom your child?
