Q: Where can I find ________?

A: The site is organized into these different sections:

There are sub-pages within each of these sections. If you get lost at anytime, simply pick a section from the pull down menu in the upper left hand corner or just go home.


 
Q: How can I get in touch with the researchers or the Jane Goodall Institute's Center for Primate Studies?

A: The address for the JGICPS can be found on the contact page.


 
Q: Why can't I see the movies?

A: You probably need to download the QuickTime plugin.

To view the videos on this site you need an extra piece of software called a QuickTime plugin. Don't worry, it's FREE! First click on the link below to get the plugin...(make sure you get either the PC or Macintosh version depending which type of computer you are using.

After you have downloaded the software double click on the file that you have downloaded and a program called QuickTime installer should open. Follow all the instructions given to install the program. You may have to restart your computer after installation. When you have restarted come on back to www.discoverchimpanzees.org and go to our QuickTime test page.


 
Q: I have QuickTime so why can't I view the movies?

A: You may have an older version of QuickTime.

The movies on this site require Quikctime 5. To make sure you have the latest version of QuickTime you will need to download the plugin by following the instructions above


 
Q: The video loads when I click on it but why won't it play?

A: Try clicking on the play button (a right pointing triangle) at the bottom-left of the movie screen.

Q: When using a PC why do I get a "Security Warning" error when I try to view the movies regardless of whether I have the QuickTime plug-in?

A: This is because of a problem with QuickTime and Internet Explorer on a PC.

If you are trying to view any movies using Windows Internet Explorer and a browser "Security Warning" dialog box appears prompting you to download the QuickTime Active X Plugin, select "Yes." The Active X plugin will then download to your system and install automatically. If this still does not work follow the instructions above for installing the latest version of QuickTime on your machine.


 
Q: Why do the videos look jerky even though I am have a fast connection?

A: You probably don't have the right connection speed set in your QuickTime settings.

Go to our QuickTime test page to learn how to set the connection speed for your QuickTime plugin.


 
Q: Why do I get a error or a broken puzzle piece when I try to play some of the games or activities?

A: You probably don't have the Flash plugin.

Q: I have the Flash Plugin so why can't I play the activities?

A: You may not have the latest version of the flash plug-in.

To download the latest version of the flash plugin follow the instructions above


 
Q: Why won't this game work? I don't understand how it works.

A: Make sure to read the directions or description carefully.

Some of the elements also may take a few moments to load fully, especially on a slower connection. Make sure to wait till the activity is fully loaded.


 
Q: How does the Virtual Tour work? All I see is a picture.

A: You can click on this picture and move around inside it.

The photograph in the Virtual Tour is a QuickTime VR. This means that if you click and keep holding your mouse button down while you move the mouse you will be able to look up and down and all around in the picture.

Q: Why can't I view the downloadable activities or other PDFs?

A: The downloadable activities on the site require the Adobe Acrobat Reader

To view the downloadable activities on this site you need an extra piece of software called the Adobe PDF Reader. Don't worry, it's FREE! First click on the link below to get the plugin...(make sure you get either the PC or Macintosh version depending which type of computer you are using.

After you have downloaded the software double click on the file that you have downloaded and an installer program should open. Follow all the instructions given to install the program. Q: Does this site meet basic accessibility guidelines?

A: We have made many efforts to make this site accessible to the largest number of people possible.

Q: Is this site compatible with all browsers?

A: No.

This web site is written in acoradance with the W3's (the internet's governing body) rules and regulations. A great deal of effort has been made to make sure this site is compatible on all browsers but older browsers will not display this site correctly in all instances. Q: Why do some of the images look funny with blank spaces in between them?
Why don't some parts of the site work when I click on them?

A: These are both browser compatibility issues.

The You are most likely using an older browser. Plead consider upgrading to a newer browser. For more information on this please visit our compatibility page.


 
Q: Why do the colors look strange on my monitor?

A: This page has been designed for use with high-resolution monitors.

If your monitor is only set to 256 colors you may see some strange color effects. If possible try setting you monitor to Thousands of colors or Millions of colors.
